Parks Department

The mission of Marion Parks and Recreation Department is to enhance the quality of life and community pride by providing and maintaining safe, accessible, affordable parks, recreational programs and facilities.

Parks and open space help define the character of the Marion and give it a unique range of assets within the county and region. The parks and open space give structure to the City of Marion by introducing complementary green and open spaces into the residential and commercial fabric of the City and by helping unify and even providing identity to the neighborhoods within the City. The existence of an extensive parks and open space system provides residents access to the natural environment, including opportunities for walking and active/passive recreation.

The Parks department insures the stewardship, programs, maintenance and development, of the Parks managed by the City of Marion.

The City of Marion has 13 parks for your enjoyment. All Parks (except Matter Park) are open 7:00am to 9:00pm. Matter Park is open 7:00am to 11:00pm. Additional rules have been adopted specific to Friendship Corner and The Gardens of Matter Park which include

  • Pets (allowed on leash in Gardens only)
