Many are in conjunction with other organizations and businesses. Some popular events include:
This tradition takes place in the spring of each year, typically in April. The dance is an event for dads with daughters ages 10 and under. Because of the dance’s growing popularity, a reservation is required. Food, entertainment, and photo opportunities are offered each year during this inexpensive family bonding experience and community gathering. The dance usually takes place in the Garden House of Matter Park.
April is also the time for this annual environmentally-centered event. Parks & Recreation partners with Marion Utilities and our General Motors plant to provide an educational and fun-filled experience for the whole family. The event is free, but offers food and other services available for purchase. Earth Day usually takes place in Matter Park.
Concerts in the Gardens
One of the most exciting places to be in the summertime in Marion is at the Concerts in the Gardens. People near and far bring lawn chairs and picnic baskets to enjoy all types of live musical entertainment. The Concerts in the Gardens provides performances ranging from favorite local cover bands and high school bands or choirs, to local singer/songwriters and even nationally known or breakthrough artists such as Jessie Brown and Jon McLaughlin!
Parks & Recreation is fortunate to have groups that coordinate the majority of public events in the Gardens of Matter Park. Visit https://www.friendsofthegardens.us/ to find upcoming events including the Garden Education Series, the annual An Evening in the Gardens fundraiser, and many more.
