Celebrate Marion's 190th Birthday Downtown, Saturday, 5/21/22 Share

The pub­lic is invit­ed to a free block par­ty down­town to cel­e­brate the City of Marion’s 190th birth­day on Sat­ur­day, May 21st, 2022, from 12 – 5pm in the 5th Street Com­mons. There will be live music and enter­tain­ment, kid-friend­ly fea­tures, craft ven­dors, and much more in the 5th Street Com­mons between Adams and Wash­ing­ton Streets, just south of the Grant Coun­ty Cour­t­house Square.

City event team, Dis­cov­er Mar­i­on Down­town, is grate­ful to offer free fea­tures for the com­mu­ni­ty to enjoy through the spon­sor­ship of Psy­che­del­ic Cel­lar, Folkie’s Tav­ern, the Chron­i­cle Tri­bune, and downtown’s retir­ing Coun­try Café which will bake free first come, first serve’ cup­cakes for the party.

Mar­i­on native and singer-song­writer, Kei­th Rea, will emcee and kick off the music.

Stage Line­up:

12 – 1pm: Music by Kei­th Rea

1:30 – 2:30pm: Music by Cia­ra Haskett

3 – 3:30pm: Mayor’s Speech and Birthday

4 – 5pm: Music by Dave Gray & Dar­rell Briscoe

Food & Drink:

There will be sev­er­al food trucks set up in the Com­mons. Free cot­ton can­dy will be offered next to the cup­cake sta­tion. Obi’s Bar­be­cue invites patrons to enjoy a new­ly opened patio which may be used as a beer gar­den and gath­er­ing space direct­ly west of the 5th Street Commons.

Fam­i­ly-friend­ly:

An inflat­able obsta­cle course will be set up, face paint­ing, MFD’s Touch a Truck,’ and MPD’s mas­cot, John­ny Law.” MFD’s retired arson dog, Jer­sey, as well as MPD’s ther­a­py dog, Zion, will be mak­ing appear­ances at the party.
