Rundown for Downtown Christmas Event, 12/7/19 Share

The Walk­way of Lights Com­mit­tee and lots of local part­ners are putting fin­ish­ing touch­es on the 1^stAnnu­al Christ­mas City USA Down­town Event to take place this Sat­ur­day. A sun­ny day in store for a full day and night of fes­tiv­i­ties Down­town, Mar­i­on, IN (Noon to 10pm). 

When you come Down­town this Sat­ur­day you’ll find food trucks through­out the day, musi­cal and the­atri­cal per­for­mances in many spots, fam­i­ly fun includ­ing bal­loon sculpt­ing & face paint­ing (free), trol­ley rides into the Walk­way of Lights ($3/​adults, $2/​child), and peo­ple-mover rides around the Cour­t­house for $1/​person. The bulk of activ­i­ty will take place in both the Boston Hill Cen­ter (428 S. Wash­ing­ton St.) and the Mar­i­on Munic­i­pal Build­ing (301 S. Bran­son St.), where full itin­er­aries and map will be hand­ed out. So, either of these two loca­tions would be a good place to start. Free pic­tures with San­ta is also tak­ing place at City Hall!

And then the parade with a new punch! The parade will begin at 7pm, and there will be a new route: It will start at the YMCA, go south on Wash­ing­ton St. to 6^th St, then will head east on 6^th St. to Adams St., back north on Adams to 1^st St., then west on 1^st to Wash­ing­ton, then back across the riv­er to the Y, basi­cal­ly cir­cling Down­town, Mar­i­on. The tree-light­ing cer­e­mo­ny will take place fol­low­ing the parade at approx­i­mate­ly 9pm on the Cour­t­house lawn. With all eyes on the sky dur­ing the tree light­ing, fire­works will also be set off for all to enjoy.

There will also be signs post­ed through­out down­town the morn­ing of the event show­ing where and when indi­vid­ual events will be hap­pen­ing. Christ­mas City USA Down­town Event infor­ma­tion has been in the news­pa­per, on the radio, on table tents in restau­rants, passed out on brochures, and more.

The Walk­way of Lights Hol­i­day Dis­play is going on now through New Year’s Eve 7 days a week in Mat­ter Park from 6 – 10pm ($5/​car per visit).
