Message from the Mayor on State Road 9 Project Share

The road work on State Road 9 (Mar­i­on bypass) is a project of the Indi­ana Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion and will hope­ful­ly be con­clud­ed in ear­ly September.

Accord­ing to Britt Salay with INDOT’s Fort Wayne Dis­trict, a sec­tion of the bypass between 16^th Street and 35^th Street will con­sist of remov­ing exist­ing pave­ment mark­ings and installing new mark­ings that include slot­ted left turns. The work will also involve new loop detec­tions and sig­nage in the area as well as new traf­fic sig­nal heads. INDOT will also make adjust­ments to sig­nal head place­ments to pro­vide prop­er spac­ing for the new lane markings. 

“Bar­ring any delays, we antic­i­pate wrap­ping this work up ear­ly next month (Sep­tem­ber),” Salay stat­ed. He added, ​“I did ask the con­trac­tor to add the work into CARS (traf­fic project report­ing sys­tem) so peo­ple can see it on our con­struc­tion map. May­or Jess Alum­baugh empha­sizes that the City of Mar­i­on had no notice of the INDOT project pri­or to the work begin­ning and lane restric­tions imposed. ​“Had the City of Mar­i­on received notice of the project and start date, we would have shared it with our cit­i­zens,” he stated.
