The City of Marion will soon use Artificial Intelligence to build better roads more efficiently and expeditiously. The City will work with German company, Vialytics, for streamlining and enhancing management of Marion’s infrastructure through an AI digital imaging collection system.
City Engineering & Planning Director Mike Graft and his team are looking forward to getting set up with the new technology. Cameras will be mounted inside select city vehicles used to assess Marion’s streets. The cameras will provide near accurate and more frequent road assessments, and will save a lot of hours of manual assessment, potentially saving the City thousands of dollars. Citizens will even have access to the color-coded data.
Graft said the modern technology will progress the city in the right direction. “This new system will eliminate manual input, show more detail of conditions, and will allow us to upload better data to use when applying for Community Crossing Matching Grants.” He added, “Very few cities in and around Indiana have this technology. A lot of cities pay companies to do this type of work for consulting, but we will have our own data and will be able to get things done in a timely manner.”
The new Vialytics system is scheduled be implemented in early May.
