After going through a rigorous process, the Marion Transit System has received a perfect compliance review from the Indiana Department of Transportation, following a perfect review from the Federal Transportation Administration last fall.
In a report received on July 19th, 2024, INDOT found zero deficiencies in all categories of review which included: legal; financial management; technical capacity in award management, program and project management; transit asset management; satisfactory continuing control, maintenance and asset management; procurement; disadvantaged business enterprise; Title VI; Americans with Disabilities Act in general as well as in deviated and fixed routes; Equal Employment Opportunity; charter service; drug free workplace; and medical qualification.
Transportation Director Jeff Edwards said the excellent compliance review from the state on top of the perfect score they received in October of 2023 from the FTA is exceptional and says a lot about their department and the City of Marion. “I can’t say enough about our team. Grant Administrator Chuck Martindale and Administrative Assistant Pam Leming both worked long hours to prepare for this review and submit all records necessary.”
The City of Marion receives 80% of their budget from federal funding and another 10% from the state, therefore, positive reports ensure these funds. INDOT reviews Marion every four years. The last review in 2020 also produced a perfect score. The FTA reviews randomly with one city and one county in each state each time.
Edwards expressed, “It’s the best feeling in the world to know that we have zero deficiencies. There are a lot of rules and regulations for compliance, so I am very proud of this team.”
