On Sept. 24th, the City of Marion will unveil an outdoor Fitness Court® Studio at Charles Mill Park, improving and enhancing quality of life for Indiana residents. The project is a featured part of the nationwide initiative launched by National Fitness Campaign, a wellness consulting firm on a mission to change health outcomes in America. National Fitness Campaign’s award-winning initiative welcomed its 500th healthy community in 2023 and is poised to deliver vital outdoor wellness programs to 1,000 healthy communities by 2025 to increase outdoor movement and to help fight rising fiscal and humanitarian costs of physical inactivity. This year, Marion, IN and dozens of other select recipients around the country were awarded funding from NFC to help support the program. In addition to NFC grant funding, local funding from multiple groups and individuals contributed to make the project possible in Marion.
Mayor Morrell said, “We are thrilled to introduce the NFC to Marion as part of our administration’s commitment to promoting health and wellness. This initiative aims to inspire and motivate our citizens to engage in physical activity and improve their overall fitness.”
The new Fitness Court Studio at Charles Mill Park features two workout areas separated by a mural wall from local photography to showcase the setting and to inspire people as they enjoy the benefits and energy created by outdoor exercise. The Fitness Court Studio delivers the powerful seven-minute full-body workout on one side and a versatile outdoor class area for yoga, Zumba, Pilates and other popular group wellness activities on the opposite side. Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket, and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
“We are excited to have Charles Mill Park join us in the journey to improve health and wellness as we work to make a powerful and long-lasting impact on longevity and happiness by building healthy communities across America,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court Studio, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
Residents are invited to attend an Opening Day launch on September 24th at 10am to try the Fitness Court Studio and discover the possibilities of community wellness events and programming through outdoor studio. For more information, contact Parks Office Manager Rose Cadena at 765.382.3761.
