Det. Sgt. Ben Caudell has a unique role with the Marion Police Department helping bring justice to victims of sexual crimes.
Caudell explained that a majority of cases he works are youth victims of physical and sexual abuse and adult victims of sex-related crimes. “My goal is to complete thorough, detailed investigations in an attempt to minimize the trauma to the victims and their families. Often the more overwhelming the evidence obtained through investigation supporting the victim’s statements against the suspect, the less likely a trial will be necessary. The hope is that the details/evidence obtained during the investigation will circumvent the necessity of the victim to have to testify and relive the events in a courtroom full of strangers.” He added, “Having seen the trauma the victims experience is where my passion for the work comes from.”
Chf. Angela Haley and Capt. Mark Stefanatos shared words of affirmation about Det. Sgt. Caudell. ”Ben has worked numerous child molest cases where he was able to complete cases resulting in arrests. He is dedicated to his job and the citizens of Marion, and he works tirelessly to make children safer.”
Caudell was hired as a Patrol Officer with MPD right after graduating from Ball State in 2001. He was promoted to Detective in 2005, then to Detective Sergeant in 2018.
