The City of Marion has been awarded a one million dollar Community Crossing Matching Grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
In a letter dated April 10th, 2023, Governor Eric Holcomb and INDOT Commissioner Michael Smith signed the preliminary approval for funding to match the City’s commitment to improve the infrastructure within the City of Marion.
The projected cost for the 2023 road and streets project is $2 million.
Mayor Jess Alumbaugh stated, “The City of Marion is pleased to have been awarded this one million dollar Community Crossing Grant from INDOT. These funds, combined with the administration’s financial commitment to our city’s infrastructure, will help us continue to improve our streets throughout the community which had long been neglected.”
City of Marion Engineering Director Mike Graft said he’s thrilled to receive the funding to keep the Mayor’s initiative of continuing the betterment of streets for the citizens of Marion. Graft stated, “Since the beginning of this administration, the City has allocated $4,550,000 and paved 38 miles of roadway, and with the addition of this $1,000,000 grant award, significant improvements will be made to several highly traveled and neighborhood roads throughout the city in 2023.”
