City of Marion Awarded $1 Mil Grant from INDOT Share

The City of Mar­i­on has been award­ed a one mil­lion dol­lar Com­mu­ni­ty Cross­ing Match­ing Grant from the Indi­ana Depart­ment of Transportation.

In a let­ter dat­ed April 10th, 2023, Gov­er­nor Eric Hol­comb and INDOT Com­mis­sion­er Michael Smith signed the pre­lim­i­nary approval for fund­ing to match the City’s com­mit­ment to improve the infra­struc­ture with­in the City of Marion.

The pro­ject­ed cost for the 2023 road and streets project is $2 million.

May­or Jess Alum­baugh stat­ed, The City of Mar­i­on is pleased to have been award­ed this one mil­lion dol­lar Com­mu­ni­ty Cross­ing Grant from INDOT. These funds, com­bined with the administration’s finan­cial com­mit­ment to our city’s infra­struc­ture, will help us con­tin­ue to improve our streets through­out the com­mu­ni­ty which had long been neglected.”

City of Mar­i­on Engi­neer­ing Direc­tor Mike Graft said he’s thrilled to receive the fund­ing to keep the Mayor’s ini­tia­tive of con­tin­u­ing the bet­ter­ment of streets for the cit­i­zens of Mar­i­on. Graft stat­ed, Since the begin­ning of this admin­is­tra­tion, the City has allo­cat­ed $4,550,000 and paved 38 miles of road­way, and with the addi­tion of this $1,000,000 grant award, sig­nif­i­cant improve­ments will be made to sev­er­al high­ly trav­eled and neigh­bor­hood roads through­out the city in 2023.”
