One important facet of a court system is probation, managed by a person or team who supervises offenders, ensuring they meet conditions set by the court. Two hard-working employees represent the probation division of City of Marion Court: Probation Officer Brent Harshman and Probation Secretary Jenny Cassidy.
“Jenny is the first smiling face that clients see when they show up for an appointment,” said Harshman.
Cassidy’s main tasks include scheduling, answering phone calls, entering data, collecting fees, providing assistance to the Clerk and Judge in Court, and maintaining communication with Grant County Probation.
“Jenny makes my job exponentially easier, and I couldn’t be more pleased that she is a part of our team.”
As Probation Officer, Harshman’s responsibilities include face-to-face meetings with probationers, collection of statistics for the State of Indiana, bookkeeping, coordinating outpatient services for clients, and participating in proceedings for City Court.
“I love that I have the opportunity to interact with people on a deeper level through this position. As a lifelong resident of Marion, I feel a sense of pride in giving back to my community and providing emotional and educational support to my struggling neighbors.” He added, “Doing this job for over 15 years now, and in working with thousands of people from all walks of life, I can confidently say that Giants Fight, Never Die!”
Clerk Kathi Kiley and Judge Michael Hotz nominated Harshman and Cassidy for the honor.
Kiley expressed, “Brent and Jenny have been very helpful to me and my staff. At times, my office experiences difficult situations where we work understaffed. They step up and do whatever is necessary to make City Court run smoothly.”
