A longtime dynamic duo who graced WBAT’s airwaves for “Good Morning Grant County” left lasting memories for listeners and sparked a lasting friendship.
Tim George had been programming and hosting the show for a few years before Breen joined him as a sidekick. Breen recalled, “Tim didn’t want me there at first, but we soon found our own level. We played ‘good cop, bad cop,’ and worked together very easily.” Breen reflected on the near 14-year run as a team. “I think we did something that was important for the community. We developed a reputation of giving people what they needed, not afraid to ask the hard questions and meet issues head-on. We were helping Marion and Grant County talk to each other.”
George said the addition of Breen was a good move for “Good Morning Grant County.” “Ed legitimized what we did. He’s held in such high regard in the community. They know that if he hasn’t researched it, he’s lived it. I spent a lot of my time running the board, booking guests, and making sure the show moved.” He laughed recalling that it was hard sometimes to wrap up an unofficial lingering ‘Ed Breen Moment.’
In 2022, unforeseen medical reasons sparked a transition of the duo’s lives and careers respectively. They both still have a presence ‘on the air’ today. One may hear George do high school “Friday Night Sports Wrap Ups” on 105.9 The Bash’s Rockin’ Scoreboard Show. One may still hear Breen’s opinions through “It Seems to Me” regular commentary through Eighty8 Entertainment’s web stream programming.
Outgoing mayor, Jess Alumbaugh, selected George and Breen as his final Champions of the Month with fondness and deep appreciation for their dedication to the community.
George’s additional contributions were not limited to his talents on the piano at Lakeview Wesleyan Church, and as a board member of the United Way of Grant County.
Indiana Hall of Fame Journalist Breen helped spearhead and long committed to the Mississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment, served on Rotary, Friends of the Library, and more.
