Taylor Gillespie was hired on May 6th, 2021 as an Administrative Assistant and Event Coordinator for the City of Marion Parks & Recreation Department.
Since her start date, she has jumped in to create and organize numerous successful events through the Parks Dept. including two Community Celebration Cookouts for New Playgrounds, two Disc Golf Course Cleanups, and a Cornhole Tournament. She is currently organizing a Fall Festival planned for October 23rd in Matter Park, and has raised thousands through sponsorships to cover all of her costs for each event. She has most recently joined the Discover Marion Downtown planning team for the City of Marion to assist with coordinating monthly downtown events with the Community Development and Planning Depts.
Parks & Recreation Dept. Superintendent, James Loftis, expressed, “Since Taylor has come on board with the Parks Dept., she has been an absolute joy to work with and always has a smile. She hit the ground running with scheduling events and learning City procedures. We’ve gone a few years without much on the event schedule, and holding events are crucial to a healthy Parks system. She has been instrumental in fundraising for these events with great community response. I am excited to see what the coming year holds.”
Parks Office Manager, Rose Cadena, stated, “Taylor has been a pleasure to work with and a great addition to our Parks staff. She has created several successful events in the short time she has been with the Parks Dept. She has been a huge help in the Parks Dept. office, and I look forward to all the things she brings/adds to our team.”
