One of Marion Police Department’s most recently hired officers is in the City of Marion’s “Employee Spotlight” for life-saving actions.
On November 16th, 2022, a home on South Mason Boulevard was on fire and filled with smoke. Officer Darius Dora entered the home, helped a resident escape, and rendered aid until medical help arrived. Officer Dora had entered the home without hesitation.
Officer Dora recalled, “I knew there had been a similar house fire a month prior resulting in death. So, I had sprung into action when I heard the call.”
Officer Dora was hired on June 20th, 2022.
Marion Police Chief Angela Haley stated, “Officer Dora is new to the Marion area. He comes to us from Columbus, Mississippi where he had served as a Law Enforcement Officer for two years. Officer Dora is already proving that he has a heart to serve and is making a positive difference in our community.”
Officer Dora said he’s adjusting to the cold weather, but likes living in Indiana and serving the citizens of Marion.
He shared a vision to help kids through a summer program or something similar through community relations.
When asked what special skills he brings to the department and overall community, he said, “I’m able to speak to anybody. I’m a relatable person. I try to reason with people and have every intention of helping them.”
