One of Mar­i­on Police Department’s most recent­ly hired offi­cers is in the City of Marion’s Employ­ee Spot­light” for life-sav­ing actions.

On Novem­ber 16th, 2022, a home on South Mason Boule­vard was on fire and filled with smoke. Offi­cer Dar­ius Dora entered the home, helped a res­i­dent escape, and ren­dered aid until med­ical help arrived. Offi­cer Dora had entered the home with­out hesitation.

Offi­cer Dora recalled, I knew there had been a sim­i­lar house fire a month pri­or result­ing in death. So, I had sprung into action when I heard the call.”

Offi­cer Dora was hired on June 20th, 2022.

Mar­i­on Police Chief Angela Haley stat­ed, Offi­cer Dora is new to the Mar­i­on area. He comes to us from Colum­bus, Mis­sis­sip­pi where he had served as a Law Enforce­ment Offi­cer for two years. Offi­cer Dora is already prov­ing that he has a heart to serve and is mak­ing a pos­i­tive dif­fer­ence in our community.”

Offi­cer Dora said he’s adjust­ing to the cold weath­er, but likes liv­ing in Indi­ana and serv­ing the cit­i­zens of Marion.

He shared a vision to help kids through a sum­mer pro­gram or some­thing sim­i­lar through com­mu­ni­ty relations.

When asked what spe­cial skills he brings to the depart­ment and over­all com­mu­ni­ty, he said, I’m able to speak to any­body. I’m a relat­able per­son. I try to rea­son with peo­ple and have every inten­tion of help­ing them.”
