Training Officer Eddie Overmyer has been with the Marion Fire Department since July, 10th, 1995. He was promoted to Training Officer in 2014 by Fire Chief Paul David after serving 9 years as a Fire Prevention Officer (Investigator). During his tenure, he has achieved many various certifications.
Overmyer believes that certifications as a firefighter are not only vital, but good to start pursuing before being hired on with a fire department. “It catches my eye when applicants already have certifications such as Awareness, Operations, Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and EMT training. I like to see that they have already gotten these things on their own.”
City of Marion Fire Chief Paul David said Training Officer Overmyer is a great asset to the department, expressing he takes his position seriously and does a great job assuring everyone is properly trained. “Eddie and I constantly bounce ideas off of each other to find ways to better the department. He is a lot like Deputy Chief Justin Planck and I and thinks outside the box, and I like that. I truly enjoy working with him.”
Overmyer’s philosophy and mission is to prepare the next generation of firefighters. Overmyer has set up training to guide firefighters to follow his laid-out plan in order for them to get more than the required hours for their state certifications as well as Insurance Service Office (ISO) scoring to set good standards for the city.
MFD is accepting applications through August 15th, 2021 for their current hiring window. To learn more, visit cityofmarion.in.gov, or call the Marion Fire Department at 765.668.4474.
