Michael Mathias saw a need for an additional bicycle shop because at the time, there was only one in the entire Grant County area. He opened Marion Cycle Works in October of 2019. Michael chose downtown Marion because of the things he envisioned that he wanted to give back to cycling culture such as inclusivity, historical preservation, attention to detail, practicality, and fun. Not to mention, he is conveniently located near the Mississinewa Riverwalk. He wanted to be a part of the downtown revitalization in Marion.

Unfortunately, there is a historic bicycle shortage that they, as well as many others, are trying to get through. In addition to offering new bicycles, they also offer used bicycles, parts and accessories, and apparel.

Marion Cycle Works is also a full service and repair shop. They work on anything from the $10 garage sale bike to the $10,000 custom built Italian race bike, and anything in between. Last summer, a rider brought in a bicycle for a full tune-up and new tires for an outstanding price of $50,” said Mathias.

MCW hosts group road rides during the summer on Monday and Tuesday evenings. They also have a few events in the works, including a cyclist meet-up at Bad Dad Brewery in Fairmount on May 23rd, 2021. Tune into their Facebook and Instagram for updates.

Mathias added, I’d really like to say how grateful I am for our community and the support that they’ve shown to our downtown businesses. I believe that our downtown is really the heart and soul of our city.”
