Jerry’s Leather Shop & Shoe Hospital is one of Downtown Marion’s most long-standing businesses. Established in 1984, the small business mainly focused on shoe and leather repair, but has since expanded services to include production of custom orthotics including specialized insoles. They also do patch sewing, shoe shining, shoe/boot alteration (stretching), and even offer dry-cleaning services in addition to the various services in which they specialize for shoe and leather repair. Most of their services take place right inside the shop located at 104 East 4th St, Downtown Marion.
In 2010, the business changed ownership from Jerry Wampler to Barry Lobdell. Current owners are Barry Lobdell and his son, Marc Lobdell. Under the new ownership and management, the shop was remodeled, and the building was repaired and received a new roof and awning. In May of 2017, they opened a second shop in Kokomo, expanding their reach in providing shoe & leather repair as well as orthotics.
Currently, there are a total of 5 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee. The new employees that derived from the expansion include Jennifer Carter and Chad Lobdell. Jennifer runs the Kokomo location called Patton’s Shoe Repair, and Chad is a co-manager at the Marion shop.
Marc Lobdell says the business expansion is going well so far and they have been successful overall, but he hopes to see more business at both locations.
Stop by Jerry’s Leather in Downtown Marion, and you’ll even see some nice leather gift shop items and accessories such as purses, scarves, and fashion jewelry. They also have a snack shop offering refreshments including coffee, soda, chips, and cookies.
