The Joint Effort Against Narcotics or JEAN Team drug task force is comprised of officers from the Marion Police Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office. The team works drug cases countywide while assisting agencies statewide, oftentimes extending past city and county lines.
In 1989, the JEAN Team was formed with grant funding through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. In 1996, a full-time prosecutor was brought onto the team. Since September 11th, 2001, the grant funding became centered on homeland security, so the joint effort was put into the local budgets.
There have been numerous examples of the JEAN Team’s hard work reflected through multiple press releases that have reached headline news over the years since the JEAN Team’s inception.
Marion Police Chief Angela Haley expressed, “they do a fantastic job with limited resources, and their work hours can get crazy at times. They are dedicated to putting solid cases together in their efforts to impact drug crimes that steal the lives of so many in our community.”
