Excel Auto Body is a fam­i­ly-owned busi­ness cel­e­brat­ing its 60^th year of serv­ing Mar­i­on and Grant Coun­ty in 2019. Excel was estab­lished in 1959 by George White, Jr. His ambi­tion was to offer the finest qual­i­ty avail­able in the col­li­sion repair indus­try, along with fair busi­ness practices.

Rapid growth in the 80s neces­si­tat­ed the pur­chase of an addi­tion­al build­ing. The ​“paint shop” is used exclu­sive­ly for refin­ish­ing, detail work, cus­tom mold­ing, and stripes.

In the mid-80s, Thomas White joined the firm and has worked his way into man­age­ment. Tom was named Pres­i­dent of Excel Auto Body in Jan­u­ary of 2007. Excel Auto Body cur­rent­ly employs a team of 11.

When asked what the most reward­ing part of own­ing Excel has been, Tom White said, ​“Being the sec­ond gen­er­a­tion in this fam­i­ly busi­ness. My dad built this from the ground up and worked numer­ous hours dai­ly to make this a qual­i­ty repair facil­i­ty for all of Mar­i­on and Grant Coun­ty. I’m doing my best each and every day to make him proud!”

At age 82, George is still active in the fam­i­ly business.

While Excel’s com­mit­ment to serv­ing Grant Coun­ty hasn’t changed, Tom White says that the tools of the trade are always chang­ing. He says that con­tin­u­ing edu­ca­tion and train­ing of his team is one thing that will always be impor­tant for their busi­ness. He is also plan­ning for the next gen­er­a­tion of fam­i­ly own­er­ship with his son, Cody, in the next year.
