There is a new way to show your Marion pride…fly a City of Marion flag! The City of Marion and Collins Flags have partnered to give the community an opportunity to purchase a city flag to fly at your home, an office building, or any other facility. The flag displays the “M” mark (for Marion), the main component of the City of Marion’s brand which was established in 2017. On the flag, the “M” graphic is displayed on a pure white background. The flag was custom-made by Collins for the City of Marion and the community.
City of Marion Flag Created for Community Share
The City is in possession of the first flag, and is in the process of purchasing remaining flags for other City-owned facilities. The community is invited to order the city flag at the Collins Flags Store over the next few months. After these months transpire and the community has ample time to purchase a flag, there will be a unified flag-raising ceremony at Noon (EDT) on May 20th, 2019, Marion’s anniversary date. Anyone who has a city flag is encouraged at this designated time, to raise it and post your flag (or even your own flag-raising ceremony) on social media using the hashtag, #ChampionMarion along with any other words or expressions of pride for Marion. If you do not have access to social media, email your photo or video to Layla Price-Bodkin at lprice@cityofmarion.in.gov. She will then compile and share them through outlets including https://cityofmarion.in.gov/ and social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter) through @CityofMarionIN. If you do not have a chance to purchase your flag before the flag-raising ceremony, you may still purchase your flag at any time, and share your post at any time.
Collins has agreed to give back to the City of Marion 10% of each flag purchase in support of city community development efforts.
“We are pleased to be able to partner with Collins Flags for this special occasion. The generosity which Collins Flags has shown, offering 10% of the City of Marion flag sales to the City for community development, shows the commitment of this locally based company to play a role in making Marion a quality place of life in which our citizens can call home,” expressed Mayor Jess Alumbaugh.
“CollinsFlags.com is honored to be chosen as the exclusive flag maker for Marion’s city flag. Our family-owned company was built in this town over 40 years ago, so we are thrilled to be a part of this project. It is our hope to see this beautiful flag flying from businesses, offices, and residences,” stated Scott Wilson, Collins’ VP of Sales.

The Marion “M” on the flag and the entire City of Marion brand was developed by students and volunteers of Marion Design Co. of Indiana Wesleyan University through collaboration among citizens and community leaders. “Made by the many spaces within the heartbeat of our community, the new M comes from within and out of the ground and points toward the future of what Marion will become,” Marion Design Co. quoted in their brand presentation.
