Overview The Marion Riverfront District was established to spur investment in the historic downtown through allowing restaurants and businesses to maximize their presence on the riverfront. The goal for Downtown Marion is to build on the unique mix of food and drink places offered, add more niche shopping, create more entertainment and recreational opportunities, and cultivate a vibrant, bustling residential community. Riverfront Liquor Licensing As a key part of the initiative, the City of Marion is allowing restaurants located in the Riverfront District to obtain off-quota liquor licenses significantly below the market rate. An application must be filled out and returned to the Mayor’s Office to obtain these special permits, and is attached below. DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) A DORA allows individuals who are at least 21 years of age to purchase alcoholic beverages from approved vendors and retail establishments and carry them outside to be consumed within the DORA boundaries.
