Ozark Materials Announces New Marion Location

Marion, Indiana welcomes a new manufacturing business. Ozark Materials, LLC is an Alabama based pavement marking material manufacturer that produces products for all types of roadway applications. The company currently occupies the former Bell Packaging plant at 3112 S Boots St., a 177,000 square foot building in south Marion. The site is undergoing renovations which will be finished by early summer. Ozark Materials intends to begin full operations shortly, producing their waterborne traffic paint.

Marion Ranked 11th Best City in the U.S. for First-time Homebuyers

First-time Homebuyers across the nation should be looking at Marion, Indiana according to a report from LendEDU. Marion was ranked the “11th Best City in the U.S. for First-time Homebuyers” in a report released on May 3rd, 2017. The report highlighted Marion and the other top-rated cities and towns as offering the most reward for people buying a home for the first time.

Job Opening (Seasonal)

The Parks Department is seeking a seasonal worker for maintenance at the Splash House. Duties will include water testing of the pool areas, opening and closing of the water features and regular maintenance of the Splash House as needed. Knowledge of pools and aquatic facilities is desired. Position will begin immediately and run though mid-September. Applications available at City Hall, or under the Human Resources tab, and due to Chris White by May 15.

Community Invited to Attend “National Day of Prayer” at City Hall

The Marion/Grant County community and beyond is invited to come to City Hall to celebrate “National Day of Prayer” next Thursday. The service will take place in front of the west entrance of City Hall on Thursday, May 4th at 12pm. In the case of inclement weather, the service will take place inside the lobby. A variety of church leaders will be participating again this year. The event is being organized by the mayor’s assistant, Nikki Owen, and she is hoping for a large crowd of community members coming together to pray.

Longtime Building & Grounds Manager Announces Retirement

The City of Marion’s Building and Grounds Manager is retiring after 28 ½ years of service. Terry Kratzer began his long tenure with the City when he accepted the maintenance management role in December of 1988, after working eight years doing the same scope for the YMCA.

As a child and teenager, Kratzer worked on the family farm just outside Marion where he said he adopted a strong work ethic. He then worked for RCA for five years where he learned many different aspects of maintenance and operations.
