Open Position: Full-time Citywide Maintenance Laborer

The City of Marion will be accepting applications through Friday, November 17th, 2017 for the following position:

The Citywide Maintenance (Street) Department is seeking applicants for a full-time laborer position.

Job responsibilities: Under general supervision, operates trucks and light equipment for construction, maintenance and repair of roads and city property.

Deadline Extended to Register for Walkway of Lights Parade

The deadline to register to be a part of the 2017 Walkway of Lights Christmas Parade has been extended to Tuesday, November 7th. Please find the attached entry form.

This event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 7:00 PM. The staging area will again be at the Grant County Family YMCA, and North Washington Street Bridge. We will be sending more information concerning the staging area at a later date.

Employee Spotlight: Marion Transit Drivers

On October 25th, eleven Marion Transit Drivers were awarded with Master Driver certificates and patches during the INCOST (Indiana Council on Specialized Transportation) Banquet in Indianapolis. Several of the drivers got to attend the banquet and receive them personally. The certification is a result of a 2-year training program called RTAP (Rural Transit Assistance Program) where transit drivers complete courses including Pre-Trip, Preventative Maintenance, Emergency Procedures & Evacuation, Substance Abuse Awareness, and Passenger Assistance Techniques.

City Offers Assistance as Bagged Leaf Collection Begins

Leaf collection began this week, and the City of Marion will continue to offer assistance for citizens who need yard waste bags. The City is grateful to continue the assistance program thanks to Linda Wilk’s involvement, and to Lowe’s for donating more bags for the 2017 fall season.

Residents may come to City Hall in the mayor’s office and request bags at the reception counter. They may also call ahead at 765-662-9931. Bags are given away on a first-come first-served basis.

City Fills Neighborhood Association Coordinator Vacancy

The open Neighborhood Association Coordinator position has been filled, and neighborhoods throughout Marion will have access to new leadership and guidance starting next month. On November 6th, Kayla Johnson will begin her new role with the City of Marion, replacing Larry Richardson who had retired in January.

City Thanks Garfield Neighborhood and Partners for Initiating Revitalization of Barnes Park; Ribbon Cutting this Sunday

A public park in Marion is receiving a big makeover thanks to the initiative of the Garfield Neighborhood Association and Hands of Hope, a division of Family Service Society, Inc. Garfield Association member and Hands of Hope Director Linda Wilk says the park in their neighborhood, Barnes Park, is undergoing transformation in efforts to ensure a more safe, nurturing environment to foster a good quality of life. Wilk said Barnes Park for years has served little purpose aside from being a spot for criminal-related activity.
